Rep. Maloney Fighting Infection At NY Hospital
The congressman, who was just re-elected in district 18, had spent Sunday at NY-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital's ER.

COLD SPRING, NY — Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, who just won re-election to his Hudson Valley seat in New York Congressional District 18, has been hospitalized fighting a bacterial infection that spread to several internal organs.
The infection was first diagnosed in September. On Sunday, he went to the Emergency Department at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt. On Monday he went to New York-Presbyterian in Manhattan.
While the Cold Spring resident says he expects a full recovery, the hospitalization puts the kibosh on his bid to serve as the next chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee — unless the caucus is willing to delay the vote.

From Congressman Maloney's Office:
Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), who is running to serve as the next Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), has requested a delay in the Democratic Caucus vote for DCCC Chairman in light of his hospitalization. Rep. Maloney acknowledges that it may not be possible to delay the vote and is prepared to accept whatever decision the caucus makes. If the vote is not postponed, Rep. Maloney will withdraw from the race. He was hospitalized Monday with an urgent but temporary medical condition.
“Despite our most careful planning, the road of life is unpredictable,” Maloney said. “I’m reminded of the adage, ‘Man plans and God laughs.’ I had intended to stand for election to a leadership position this week, but life had other plans for me. I’ve always been blessed with good health, but this condition is going to require a few days of intensive treatment. With deep respect for my supporters and colleagues, I felt it was improper to continue a leadership run at this time, unless the election can be postponed until a later date. I’ll be enthusiastically re-joining my colleagues soon to get to work on the important issues of the day.”
In late September, Congressman Maloney was diagnosed with a persistent bacterial infection that spread to a number of his internal organs. On Sunday, this condition worsened and required him to be admitted to the emergency room at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital. The congressman returned home that night, but following doctors’ instructions, checked himself into New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City on Monday. He is receiving intravenous antibiotic treatments and is expected to return home before the end of the week.
While the Congressman will make a full recovery, he will be unable to travel to Washington on Wednesday to participate in the Democratic Caucus leadership elections. Accordingly, Congressman Maloney has requested that Caucus leadership consider a postponement of the election, in keeping with Caucus rules. Otherwise, Maloney will be withdrawing as a candidate for Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
