STOP-DWI Impaired Driving Crackdown Runs May 25-29

Police across New York state are determined to keep drunk drivers from hurting anyone else.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest drive times of the year. And police across New York state are determined to keep drunk drivers from hurting anyone else.

The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts run all through Memorial Day weekend and end on May 29. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and marks the official start of summer. New York State Police, County Sheriffs and municipal law enforcement agencies will collaborate across the state and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths. For example, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr., Town of Carmel Police Department Chief Michael Cazzari and Kent Police Department Chief Alex Divernieri announced that their departments will participate in the special enforcement effort to crack down on impaired driving.

The STOP-DWI Memorial Day Weekend Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives
promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association with additional funding from the STOP-DWI
Foundation courtesy of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown
Campaign also targets the 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Holiday Season, Super Bowl
weekend and St. Patrick’s Day.
