Sunset Park Woman Killed In Crash, Truck Driver Charged: Cops

SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN — A box truck driver who made a swift left turn and fatally crushed an elderly woman crossing a Sunset Park street now faces criminal charges, police announced.

Xiang Chen, 67, stands accused of ramming his 2007 FUSO box truck into Youfeng Xu, 72, on the corner of 55th Street and Seventh Avenue Saturday at about 11 a.m., police said.

Chen had been driving west on 55th Street when he turned left onto Seventh Avenue and hit Xu in the crosswalk, said police.

Emergency responders found Xu lying on the pavement and rushed her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, said police.

Chen remained at the crash site and police later arrested him on charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

Xu, of Sunset Park, died from her head injuries on Tuesday, according to police.
