60s Theme Park Exhibit/Presentation At Jericho Library
American history was entertaining at Freedomland U.S.A. in the Bronx.

Memorabilia associated with the 1960s American history theme park Freedomland U.S.A. in the Bronx will be featured during May at the Jericho Public Library. Items in the spotlight include publications, ashtrays, pennants, vinyl records and photos.
Created by C. V. Wood, who was associated with the building of Disneyland and other parks, Freedomland lasted five years (1960-1964). The park, unbeknownst to Wood and the public, purposely was driven into bankruptcy to obtain land variances that permitted the construction of Co-op City on the same marshland in the northeast section of the borough.
The park’s story from creation to demolition will be revealed during a Wednesday, May 18, presentation at the library at 2:30 p.m. The library is located on 1 Merry Lane, off Jericho Turnpike and near the historic Milleridge Inn. Click here for information. The presentation is based on the book Freedomland U.S.A.: The Definitive History.
