UPDATE: Both Lanes Re-opened in Jericho Turnpike Gas Spill
The street was temporarily closed from Jackson Avenue down due to the spillage.
A large gas spill from a commercial truck on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday temporarily shut down the street for about a mile downas police and firefighters worked on containing the spill.
The truck leaked about 10 gallons of fuel after its fuel line broke, according to the NYS Department of Envirormental Conservation (DEC). Some of the fuel leaked into a storm drain and a contractor was called to the scene to vacuum the material up. The DEC added that most of the material was recovered and that they are still working on recovering the remaining material.

Police re-opened the eastbound lane on Jericho Turnpike around 3:20 p.m., while the westbound lane was re-opened around 5:30 p.m.
The , Hicksville FD and Nassau County Hazmat units were all at the scene, working on containing the fuel that spilled on the street.
