Syosset Man Who Posed As Federal Air Marshal Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison: DA

The 51-year-old was arrested in 2015 after pretending to be an air marshal and possessing several weapons, the DA said.

A Syosset man was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday for impersonating a federal air marshal and possessing multiple weapons in his car and home in 2015, according to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

In January, 51-year-old Mark Vicars, pleaded guilty before Supreme Court Justice William Donnino to three counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, the DA said.

In addition to jail time, Vicars was sentences to five years' post-release supervision. The DA recommended a sentence of 15 years in prison.

In 2015, during a traffic stop on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset Vicars pulled over and activated emergency lights on his 2014 Dodge Durango, the DA said.

He then produced a fake shield and credentials that identified him as a federal air marshal, the DA said. Vicars was found to be in possession of a loaded .380 pistol and a knife.

A loaded assault rifle, ballistic body armor, a tactical vest, several high capacity magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were found in the back seat of the car.

After obtaining a search warrant at the his home, detectives recovered more weapons and 8,300 rounds of ammunition, the DA said.

Vicars pleaded guilty to illegally possessing an AR-15 assault rifle, a Ruger pistol, a Smith and Wesson revolver, a Springfield Armory pistol, a Sig Sauer pistol and two Glock pistols.

“This defendant possessed an arsenal of illegal weapons as he impersonated a federal air marshal,” Singas said. “I thank the Nassau County Police Department, Joint Terrorism Task Force and the TSA for making sure this potentially dangerous individual stays off the streets for many years to come.”
