Town To Begin Work On Syosset-Woodbury Community Park

Workers will begin by making improvements to park by installing new turf before the spring season.

SYOSSET, NY - Town of Oyster Bay officials recently announced that they will begin making improvements to the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park before the spring season.

Workers will be installing replacement turf at the park as well as removing and replacing the existing synthetic turf and infill, leaving the existing drainage and stone base in place.

The costs associated with installing replacement turf are estimated to be less than the cost of initial construction as infrastructure is already in place, according to Town officials.

“The Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Field is extremely popular and has been used steadily over the years by a multitude of sports organizations," Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said. "The turf has exceeded its useful life and we intend to move quickly with its replacement process to minimize any inconvenience for the community.”

The field at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park is used nearly every day of the year for lacrosse, soccer, football and baseball teams. The field also serves as home to various sports camps and booster clubs that support high school athletics.

“The new field will be made of the latest generation infilled turf system which is more durable and provides a better replication of natural grass. The field will be well-suited for play in all weather conditions, as the turf will not get soggy or muddy,” Councilman Anthony Macagnone said.

In addition to the turf replacement, the Town of Oyster Bay will be repairing perimeter fencing, and perform minor site improvements.
