warming up car on a cold day

Warming up your car

There has been discussion about warming up a car during the cold weather. Letting your car run decreases viscosity which allows the coolants as well as oil to circulate and perform. Starting and driving a cold car leaves gaskets and high points in the system to be under lubricated. In addition, if its 10 degrees F,outside, the wind chill on steel is -30 degrees and lower. Metal stresses under cold as it does with heat. The crank shaft, the piston rods and fly wheel, to name a few components, can experience small fractures under load when the load is applied under sub-zero wind chill. So keep your car happy (and you) and give your car a few minutes to get ready.
