Whiz Kids: Madison Fressle and Sara Jackson

These two Our Lady of Mercy students are Green Teen volunteers that make a difference in the community.

Names: Madison Fressle, 15, and Sara Jackson, 17.  

School:

Nominator: Tara Pallisco, Development and Communications Assistant at the Long Island Children's Museum.

Accomplishment: Madison and Sara both participated in the Green Teens program held at the throughout the summer.

The summer program utilizes the service-learning model combining meaningful community service with a deeper level of instruction to produce an enriched learning experience for the teens.

Madison and Sara worked with fellow high school students to develop and teach interactive nature and environmental education programs for Museum visitors. The eight-week program was sponsored by National Grid.

Pallisco said that Madison started out a little bit on the shy side, but emerged into quite an involved and enthusiastic educator. 

"Being a Green Teen made me learn about children, the environment and how great it feels to volunteer," Madison said.

As for Sara:  "She was an overall pleasure to work with and an asset to her peers," Pallisco said.
