Yes- There's a Difference Between Healthy Eating and Dieting

For years, I have talked to people from all over who discuss dieting and eating healthy like they are the same exact concepts. Yes, they may be similar but there are a great variation of discrepancies to be aware of. When you are eating healthy, do you have a goal of losing weight? Not necessarily. When you are dieting, do you sometimes get caught up in certain fads where all you eat/drink are one or two things? For instance, the grapefruit diet, cabbage soup diet etc. That’s definitely not healthy eating!

First thing’s first. When we hear the word “diet”, why do we automatically cringe? Think about it. The word diet literally means everything that we consume on a daily basis. You can have a diet filled with chocolate and pound cake, it’s still a diet. (Please don’t go down that road!) Is it healthy? Absolutely not. But it’s still a diet.

When you’re eating healthy, understand that there should be an encouragement of eating wholesome products including fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Particular “diets” can offer this, but how often is there a limit? Always.

Additionally, when a person eats healthy, there should be obvious recognition that there are no quick fixes. You want results- work for them. Please don’t fall for the gimmicks of so many of those fad diets out there.

The Bottom Line

Try this- fill up on nutrient rich vegetables, fruits, and wholesome products which won’t even allow you to have room for those foods that are considered to be empty calories. This may be a way to sway you away from those outrageous, unhealthy diets. Remember: focus on what you can eat versus on what you shouldn’t!
