Assistant Principal Appointed To Sleepy Hollow Middle School

The new hire comes from the Greenwich, CT public schools.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — Richard Crawford, an educator with more than 13 years of experience, most recently in the Greenwich, CT, Public Schools, was appointed recently by the Tarrytown Board of Education as assistant principal at Sleepy Hollow Middle School. His appointment, to fill the vacancy left by Joseph Engelhardt, completes the Middle School administrative team. Joshua Whitham was appointed last spring to fill the position of principal.

As an administrator, Crawford brings with him three years of experience as an administrative intern at Western Middle School in Greenwich, and seven years of experience as coordinator of the International Baccalaureate program at that school.

He has also served as that school’s Math Learning Facilitator and as a math teacher at Western for the past 10 years.

Crawford was recognized in May 2016 with the Distinguished Teacher Award in Greenwich.

During his time in Greenwich, he participated in the Harvard Data Wise program, which examined data driven instruction, and traveled to schools in Japan to learn about the Japanese education system.

Crawford also volunteered during three stints as a volunteer ESL teacher in Peru, New York City and Costa Rica. He also volunteered in the summer of 1998 as a member of the Grand Canyon search and rescue team.

In addition to his experience in the education field, Crawford worked from 1999 through 2004 in the business world, primarily in technology, software, and web interactive media. His positions were held with companies in New York City, Jersey City and Rochester.

A resident of New City, Crawford holds a bachelor of science degree in business management from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from St. John’s University, and a master’s in School Building Leadership from Mercy College.
