Greenburgh Declares Emergency; Significant Flooding In Town

The Fairview Fire Department is helping residents with flooded basements in that part of town.

GREENBURGH, NY — The town of Greenburgh has declared a state of emergency in the wake of the heavy rains and winds from what was left of hurricane Ida.

Supervisor Paul Feiner said the action was taken at the request of Police Chief Chris McNerney.

The emergency declaration allows the supervisor to issue executive orders, implement public protective measures, suspend local laws and request supplemental assistance.

Feiner said there is significant flooding all over town, and many streets are closed.

Updates from the town of Greenburgh

  • Parking regulations are suspended. East Hartsdale Avenue (Rockledge to Central and Columbia). Parking tickets will be waived for in the residential area of East Hartsdale Avenue, not the merchant section.
  • The pool is closed Thursday.
  • Fairview Fire Department is helping residents with flooded basements; there are many requests.
  • The Greenburgh Parks and Recreation nutrition program, registration office and scheduled programming at the AFV Park Multipurpose Center is closed Thursday.
  • The basketball court and playgrounds at Old Tarrytown Road Park will be temporarily closed until storm cleanup can be completed.
