Annual fire hydrant maintenance and water main flushing is scheduled to begin April 4 for Westchester County customers of SUEZ, formerly known as United Water New Rochelle.

Work will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to a company spokeswoman.

“The project is part of the company’s routine maintenance program to assure high water quality and reliability,” said Lynda DiMenna, manager of SUEZ operations in Westchester.

“It is also necessary to be sure that the hydrants are working properly in the event that they need to be used by firefighters,” she said.

The affected communities for the week of April 4 are Ardsley, Dobb’s Ferry, part of Greenburgh, Port Chester and Rye Brook.

The maintenance entails having the water flow from the hydrants to remove harmless minerals that collect in the water main.

During the maintenance, customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water.

After the maintenance is concluded, the water will be safe, but customers might want to wait until the water runs clear before drinking it or washing clothes or dishes.

Other communities served by SUEZ are Bronxville, Eastchester, Hastings-on-Hudson, New Rochelle, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Rye and Tuckahoe.
