Free Diabetes Prevention Program at Mather Hospital

A free Diabetes Prevention Program will be offered at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson to those with pre-diabetes or who are at high risk for developing type-2 diabetes.

The class, presented by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, will meet one hour per week for 16 weeks, followed by monthly sessions. The course covers lifestyle changes, including increasing physical activity and improving food choices, with the goal of preventing or delaying a diabetes diagnosis. Trained lifestyle coaches facilitate classes in small group settings.

The first class will meet on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, from 3-4 pm in Conference Rooms
