Long Island Food Banks and Pantries Are Benefiting from Local Online Food Market

OurHarvest has donated over 1,300 meals to food pantries and charities across Long Island in the first two months of operation

Hicksville, NY (September 5, 2014) – The strong commitment of the local online food market, OurHarvest, to offer consumers farm-fresh, natural foods at fair prices while supporting Long Island food banks and pantries is yielding positive results: over 1,300 meals have already been donated to food pantries and charities across Long Island in just the first two months of the company’s operation. The organization proudly announced the significant contributions following another successful week of food market pick-ups. Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank and Island Harvest Food Bank are two of the local entities benefiting from the donations.

“We truly appreciate the generosity of OurHarvest. Their recent donations of high quality meat and poultry products have helped us distribute farm-fresh food to our network of community-based member agencies,” said CEO of Long Island Cares Inc., Harry Chapin Food Bank Paule Pachter. “OurHarvest helps us provide food and support to those in need.”

“With over 300,000 Long Islanders, including 110,000 children, who face hunger each and every day, Island Harvest depends on the generosity of socially responsible businesses, such as OurHarvest, to assist us in our mission to end hunger on Long Island,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest Food Bank. “We truly appreciate and commend the efforts of OurHarvest’s co-founders Scott Reich and Mike Winik. Their donations have allowed Island Harvest to provide nutritious, farm-fresh meals to our neighbors in need.”

Both entities receive meals of boneless skinless chicken breasts, bone-in chicken thighs, chicken drumsticks, grass-fed ground beef and London broil. The donated food is the same product offered to OurHarvest customers.

“We’re extremely gratified by the support we’ve received across Long Island,” said Scott Reich, Co-Founder of OurHarvest. “The fast growth of our business has enabled us to make meaningful charitable donations, and we’re very proud to be helping the communities we serve.”

Our model offers a great way for customers to get top-quality, fresh food at competitive prices while giving back to their neighbors at the same time.”
