Gray's Papaya Among UWS Restaurants Reopening For Takeout

The famed hot dog stand, a 26-year-old French bakery and several other Upper West Side restaurants are reopening for takeout and delivery.

UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN — "We're back, New York!"

Iconic hot dog stand Gray's Papaya has added its name to the list of Upper West Side restaurants reopening for delivery and takeout after initially closing their doors during the coronavirus pandemic.

The eatery will offer takeout from the window of its Broadway and West 72nd Street flagship from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., they announced on Instagram Wednesday. Gray's Papaya had been closed since March 30, shortly after the mandated shut down of dinging at bars and restaurants March 17.

Gray's is among about a dozen neighborhood restaurants that have reopened for takeout after spending a few weeks completely closed by the pandemic.

The West Side Rag has been keeping track of which restaurants are starting up again.

Most recently, longtime French bakery Margot Patisserie, Broadway Bagel and Mexican restaurant Cilantro joined the list.
