#79: Birdwatch at Tackapausha Museum and Preserve

Get those binoculars ready and head over to to this Seaford oasis to view some beautiful birds and waterfowl.

As home to one the few preserves in the area, in Seaford is home to many different species of small mammals, waterfowl, and birds.

Although the museum has been closed since August of 2010, the preserve is still open to the public. The 84-acres of preserve is located in Seaford, right off of Washington Avenue. The oak forests at Tackapausha Preserve harbor over 170 species of birds, including the ruby-throated hummingbird.

Bird-watchers can hike the trails at Tackapausha, with lawn chairs in tow. You can camp out for hours looking for species commonly found at the preserve, such as red-winged blackbirds.

Green-crowned night herons are frequent visitors to the pond at Tackapausha, often resting on the fences. The pond is also home to many Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks and Peking Ducks.
