Purse and wallet safety tips

The holidays are upon us and
it is the time of year when many take to the malls. It's also a time of year when professional criminals are looking to pray on holiday shoppers. It's easy to become complacent and unaware of our surroundings making us an easy target. Many of us display our purses and wallets in a way to make us inviting targets to criminals. The tips provided below will make it harder to become a victim of a larceny. Smalls steps can prevent you from becoming a target.

Purse and Wallet Safety.

• Only take what you need that Day.
• Keep ID, keys and credit cards on your person and not in your handbag.
• Carry purses and handbags under your arm like a football, not dangling from the straps or draped over your shoulders.
• Be aware of your purse or wallet in crowded areas. Wallets should be carried in the front trouser pocket or inside jacket pocket.
• When dining out, keep your purse or handbag on your lap.
• If someone attempts to rob you, do not resist especially of a weapon is involved. Resisting might result in injury or worse.
• Eliminate spare keys from purse.
• In the supermarket, do not leave your purse in the shopping cart. Remember: out-of-sight, out-of-mind, "out-of-purse".
• Avoid displaying valuables such as jewelry or large sums of money.
• Zip or close purse securely to avoid purses pickpockets.

I hope these tips keep you safe. On behalf of the Wantagh Seaford Homeowners Association, have a happy Holliday season and a happy new year.
