Town Of Hempstead Waives Pet Adoption Fees For One Day

WANTAGH, NY — If you're looking to add a pet to your family, the Town of Hempstead is holding an adoption fair.

At The Oct. 22 event, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will waive all adoption fees, including necessary vaccinations and spaying or neutering.

All town residents can have the cat or dog of their choice microchipped free of charge as well.

If a "chipped" pet becomes lost and is brought to any animal shelter nationwide, it can be scanned for your information allowing the pet to return home quickly.

Additionally, town residents can take advantage of free rabies vaccinations for their cats or dogs. You must bring a current dog license or purchase a new one ($10 for spayed/neutered dogs; $18 for non-spayed/non-neutered dogs).

Dogs must be on a leash, while cats must be in a carrier to receive the rabies shot.

The animal shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh. The adoption fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
