Wantagh Student Awarded Firemen's Association Scholarship

James McCarron Jr., class of 2014, was selected as a local winner of the FASNY Gerard Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship.

A Wantagh High School student was honored with a scholarship from the Firemen's Association of New York.

James McCarron Jr., class of 2014, was selected as a local winner of the FASNY Gerard Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship. James, who is heading to SUNY Maritime for mechanical engineering in the fall, received a certificate and a check for $1,500.

James was chosen for his dedication and volunteering in his community. A member of the varsity golf and ice hockey teams, James is a second-generation volunteer firefighter.

FASNY awarded the scholarship to 15 students from around the state and made their selections based on volunteer service and character.
