INWOOD, NY — Bruce's Community Garden in Inwood is closing temporarily to properly clean the damage caused by Tropical Storm Isaias.
The garden is located in Isham Park on 11 Park Terrace E, in Uptown Manhattan, and has operated for nearly 50 years as an outdoor space for the community.
"We are very sad to announce, the garden will be closed until the damage caused by the recent strong winds is properly addressed," Aaron Scott, the Chairman and Executive Director of Bruce's Garden, wrote on its Facebook page.

The garden is named after the late NYPD Officer Bruce Reynolds, who, on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, rushed from his post at the George Washington Bridge to the World Trade Center, sacrificing his life to save others, according to the Bruce's Garden website.
A highlight of the Inwood garden is a collection of beehives kept within the space, but it's unclear at the time if the hives made it through the storm without damage.
While Manhattan was less impacted than the other four boroughs during Tuesday's tropical storm, strong winds and torrential rain left trees fallen throughout Washington Heights and Inwood.
The storm delivered 70 mph winds in some parts of New York City, which are the strongest since Superstorm Sandy in 2020.
