Fat Joe Opens Washington Heights Shoe Store

Fat Joe's new business venture, a Washington Heights sneaker store called UP NYC, opened its doors this week.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Fat Joe is branching out into business ventures, and has selected Washington Heights as a starting point.

The "What's Luv?' rapper celebrated the opening of his sneaker store Up NYC on Saturday with partner Scotty Spina, a sneaker-loving teenager from New Jersey, Sole Collector reported. The store will sling high-end sneakers from popular brands such as Nike, Jordan, Roc Nation and New Era, according to its website, and could become an Uptown hotspot for sneakerheads.

The store will be located on the corner of Broadway and 158th Street, a location that holds a significance for Fat Joe.

"We’d go down to 23rd and Broadway and buy stuff like little cop motorcycles. We would buy them for $8 and sell them for $15," Fat Joe told Sole Collector. "Then we came down here in front of 158th and Broadway and we would sell them."

The store has a high-end atmosphere, complete with pricy sneakers held in individual, glassy display cases. The large windows out front allow passersby to catch a glimpse of some of the shoes and the cases are far apart to open up the floor spaces.
