Guinness Record Broken In Inwood: Largest Serving Of Mangú
Three chefs and a whole team of plantain masher set the record with 1,200 pounds of mangú at an Inwood restaurant on Friday.

INWOOD, NY — Three chefs and a whole team of plantain mashers set a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of mangú in the world at an Inwood restaurant Friday.
Mangú is a traditional dish from the Dominican Republic consisting of mashed plantains and pickled onions, and often served with fried egg, cheese, and salami.
Flavor Fusion Fest, held at The Hudson NYC, was the backdrop. Music and dance performances took place on stage while dozens worked to assemble the massive mangú. The record-setting serving was presented in a giant mold in the shape of the DR, and held a whopping 1,200 pounds of the dish. A judge from GWR was on scene to confirm the record was broken, according to an Instagram post from Flavor Fusion Fest.

It was no easy task — putting together this hefty serving took hours. A group led by Chefs Maria Marte, Amilkar Gonell, and Pamela Gonell mashed boiled plantains, which were put into a big bowl and spread carefully across the mold.
Jhack Sepulveda, a food safety and nutrition consultant, worked with the chefs to make sure the large-scale event wass safe.

The former Guinness World Record for the largest serving of mangú was also set on Dyckman Street. In 2017, Despierta América made a 645-pound serving at 809 Sangria Bar.
According to Friends of Inwood Hill park, 400 servings of the dish will be donated to community refrigerators in northern Manhattan.
