Hispanic Society Museum in Washington Heights to Close Until 2019

The Hispanic Society Museum, located in Washington Heights' Boricua College, will be closed until fall 2019 for "extensive upgrades."

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The Hispanic Society of America's museum — located in Washington Heights' Boricua College campus on West 155th Street and Broadway — will be closed until fall 2019 for renovations.

While the museum is closed the Hispanic Society and its partner Maria Romañach Architects will work to replace the building's roof and complete "extensive upgrades to the Museum galleries and visitor facilities," according to a press release. The renovation project will also preserve the bronze doors created by the American sculptor Berthold Nebel on the Hispanic Society's east entrance, according to the press release.

The $15 million renovation to the Hispanic Society's landmarked building was funded in part by the City Council, the Manhattan Borough President and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, according to the press release.
