Hit-And-Run Driver Strikes 2 Women In Washington Heights: Police

The driver backed over two women in a crosswalk at West 181st Street and Bennett Avenue.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD is searching for a driver who backed into two women in a Washington Heights crosswalk before fleeing the scene.

The two women — ages 71 and 42 — were crossing the street at West 181st Street and Bennett Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday when they were struck by an SUV that was travelling in reverse, an NYPD spokesman said.

The driver got out of the vehicle after striking the women, but then got back into the car and fled westbound on West 181st Street, an NYPD spokesman said.

The two women were taken to an area hospital suffering minor injuries, the NYPD spokesman said.

An NYPD investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, police said.
