Inwood Film Festival To Expand In 3rd Year

The festival, which showcases films made in Inwood and by local filmmakers, has added an opening night benefit event.

INWOOD, NY — The Inwood Film Festival is set to return for its third year in March, and the event will be bigger than ever before. The festival will now span three days and include an opening night benefit event for Inwood Art Works, the nonprofit organization that organizes the festival.

The opening night benefit for the festival will be held March 15 at the Campbell Sports Center on West 218th Street and Broadway, according to a press release. The benefit will include a presentation on the history of “Hollywood” in Inwood, short film screening and filmmaker interviews with WNYC host Brian Lehrer.

Tickets to the benefit cost $75 in advance or $100 at the door, and proceeds will support Inwood Art Works, according to a press release.

The bulk of the short- and feature-length films submitted to the festival will be screened at the Campbell Sports Center on March 16 and 17, according to a press release. All the films had to either be made in Inwood or made by an Inwood native to be eligible to the festival.

"The focus of Inwood Film Festival is to celebrate and showcase Inwood and its surrounding community through the moving image," reads a press release. "It is created to be a homegrown community platform to promote and celebrate the neighborhood of Inwood and its residents. Everyone from amateurs to Oscar winners are encouraged to participate by submitting films shot in the Inwood community, or by Inwood community filmmakers."
