Man Fired Handgun Near Inwood Nightclub: Police

Police patrolling Inwood heard a gunshot and found a man holding a pistol while investigating the noise.

INWOOD, NY — There's one less gun on the streets of Inwood. A Bronx man was arrested early Saturday morning after police patrolling the neighborhood heard a gunshot and began investigating.

Police Officer Nicholas Gain and Police Officer Dennis Frey were in the vicinity of Monaco Lounge on the 500 block of West 207 Street when they heard a single gunshot, police told Patch. When the officers arrived on scene to investigate the noise, they observed a man holding a handgun, police said.

The man, 27-year-old Christopher Clinton, attempted to flee the officers and ditch the gun under a nearby vehicle, but officers arrested him and recovered the gun, police told Patch. The gun was a Phoenix Arms Raven 25 caliber pistol.

Clinton is facing several charges including: criminal use of a firearm, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a firearm, police told Patch.

Clinton is due in court on September 29, according to court records. He is being held on $150,000 bail, which has not been posted.
