Man Gunned Down On Inwood Street During Afternoon Attack: Police

The shooter fired 15 bullets at the victim, according to the New York Daily News.

INWOOD, NY — A man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon as he tried to escape down a street in Inwood, according to police.

The shooting took place around 4:30 p.m. in front of 70 Post Avenue, police said.

Manuel "Orlando" Valarezo, 32, was standing on the Inwood block when the gunman fired off 15 bullets at the father of three, police sources told the Daily News.

Valarezo got hit in the chest and arm, according to police. Emergency services attempted to get him to the nearby St. Barnabas Hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Luz Nunez, the mother of Valarezo's children, told the Daily News that he had gotten into a fight in the neighborhood earlier in the day.

"He was a good father. He was a little hot-headed sometimes but he was a good man. I loved him very much. He was my best friend," Nunez told the Daily News. "I'm lost but I have to keep it together for the kids."

Valarezo had a 5-month-old son, an 8-year-old boy, and a 10-year-old daughter, according to the Daily News.

There are no arrests in the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

It is the second time this week that someone has been shot and killed on Post Avenue in Inwood.
