Man Robs Washington Heights Bodega With Metal Pole, Police Say

When a bodega employee refused to hand the thief cash he picked up a metal pole and started swinging at the worker.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who robbed a Washington Heights bodega while threatening an employee with a metal pole, police told Patch.

Police recently released photos of a man who entered a bodega on St. Nicholas Avenue between West 188th and 189th streets around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, and demanded cash. At first a worker at the bodega refused to hand over any money.

After being denied, the robber walked to the back of the store, picked up a metal pole and started to swing it at the bodega employee, police told Patch. The employee eventually handed the man $20, and the pole-swinging stick-up man fled the bodega in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspect (pictured above) is described as a man in his 20s with a medium complexion, black hair and brown eyes, police said. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a white t-shirt an jeans, police told Patch.
