Man Tries, Fails To Stick Up Washington Heights Bodega, Police Say

The man entered the bodega, drew a gun and threatened an employee, but ended up leaving empty handed.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Police released video Wednesday of a man's failed attempt at robbing a Washington Heights bodega earlier this month.

The man entered the store, located on Audubon Avenue near West 165th Street, around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, and flashed a gun at an employee, police told Patch. The man demanded the employee hand over cash, but the brave bodega worker didn't buy the crook's bluff and refused to give him anything.

The suspect waves the gun at the worker a few times during the brief standoff before fleeing the store empty handed, according to NYPD video.

Nobody was injured during the stick up.

The suspect — who remains at large — stands 6-feet-tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has green eyes, police told Patch. The man was wearing a green New York Jets cap, a blue soccer jersey, gray shorts and white sneakers at the time of the robbery.
