Man Who Slit Wrists After Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend Charged With Murder, Police Say

A man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and then trying to kill himself has been charged with second-degree murder.

INWOOD, NY — A man who attempted to kill himself after fatally stabbing his girlfriend in their Inwood apartment will face murder charges, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

Julian Perez, 60, was charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday, police said. Perez is accused of fatally stabbing 63-year-old Claudina Cruz on Tuesday, police said. Perez and Cruz were in a relationship and had been living in the same apartment at 25 Dongan Place, located between Broadway and Arden Street, police told Patch.

Officers discovered Cruz's body and Perez suffering from multiple cuts to his wrists on Tuesday afternoon after responding to the Dongan Place apartment for a wellness check, police told Patch. Both Cruz and Perez were found in the apartment's bedroom, police said.
