Men Beat Inwood Gas Station Worker, Slash 3 Bystanders For Windshield Fluid: Police

Two accused robbers turned violent while trying to steal a bottle of windshield wiper from an Inwood gas station.

INWOOD, NY — Police released photos of two suspects in a violent Inwood gas station robbery that left three men suffering from slash wounds and a gas station employee beaten.

The two men entered a BP gas station on Dyckman Street and Seaman Avenue around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 and attempted to walk out with a bottle of windshield wiper, police told Patch. When a 21-year-old gas station employee confronted the men outside the station the situation turned violent, police said.

The two suspects punched the gas station worker numerous times in the face, police said. Five male bystanders rushed across the street to intervene, causing the two attackers to drop the windshield wiper and flee the scene, police said.

The group of good samaritans chased after the men and caught up to them on Dyckman Street between Broadway and Vermilyea Avenue, police said. One of the attackers then brandished a sharp object and slashed three of the men, police told Patch.

The two suspects were then able to flee the scene, police said.

Three men were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in serious but stable condition suffering from slash wounds. A 32-year-old man suffered lacerations to his chin, a 21-year-old suffered lacerations to his hands and forehead and a 27-year-old suffered a cut on his forehead, police said.

Police are still searching for the two suspects, both described as men in their 20s, police said.
