Rally Calling For The Reopening Of Restaurants Set For Inwood

Aaron Foldenauer is heading the rally, the lone New York City mayoral candidate calling for indoor dining's immediate opening.

The rally comes one day after Mayor Bill de Blasio said that indoor dining in New York City could be off the table until a "huge step forward" is seen against the coronavirus.

INWOOD, NY — The Rally for Restaurant Survival is to take place Tuesday morning in Inwood.

The event is sponsored by Aaron Foldenauer, a Democratic candidate for mayor, and Josue Perez, a candidate for City Council in Uptown Manhattan's District 10.

The rally comes one day after Mayor Bill de Blasio said that indoor dining in New York City could be off the table until a "huge step forward" is seen against the coronavirus.

Foldenauer, who believes that indoor dining should be opened immediately in New York City, had strong words for de Blasio's suggestion that indoor dining rooms in the five boroughs wouldn't be on the menu for the foreseeable future.

"Keeping the indoor dining rooms of our restaurants closed until spring of next year would be a poisonous recipe for everyone in the food service industry," Foldenauer said in a news release. "Outdoor dining is insufficient and will become impractical as winter approaches."

"Already, many people living in de Blasio's New York City are fed up and heading for the suburbs," Foldenauer added in the release. "To convince New Yorkers to stay and visitors to return to the City, we must get the economy moving again and reopen the indoor dining rooms of our great restaurants."

The Rally for Restaurant Survival will kick off at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, at the corner of Broadway and Dyckman Street.

Restaurant owners, employees and political leaders will be in attendance, according to a news release for the event.

"Our local restaurants have suffered terribly during the last six months when they were forced to close," Perez said. "I am an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, and my parents came here to become business owners. The unjust closure of our restaurants adversely impacts minorities and immigrants the most."

Foldenauer is to hold a news conference after the rally.
