Rapper Meek Mill Takes Deal For Uptown Dirt Bike Arrest

The rapper had been charged with reckless endangerment and reckless driving stemming from an August arrest.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS-INWOOD, NY — Rapper Meek Mill will avoid jail time after being caught driving dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles down the streets of uptown Manhattan.

The Philadelphia-born rapper took a deal known as an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which means that charges of reckless endangerment and reckless driving will be dropped if he completes a certain amount of community service and doesn't get in trouble again, a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney confirmed with Patch. The deal is not a guilty plea, as an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal does not carry any admission of guilt, the spokeswoman said.

Meek Mill will be required to complete 30 hours of community service — of which 20 are already finished — and stay out of jail for six months, a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney said.

Meek Mill's lawyer Joe Tacopina told ABC 7 that the deal represents vindication for the rapper.

"This swift resolution vindicates Meek and clearly shows how outrageous the police department's conduct is in this case," Tacopina told ABC 7.

The hip-hop star, who's real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, was seen riding down Inwood streets in August and popping wheelies without a helmet on, police told Patch. Police were able to identify Meek Mill by using videos of the stunts posted to the rapper's Instagram Feed, police said in August.

During his arrest, Meek Mill reportedly went live from Instagram to record his interactions with the arresting officers. That video is no longer on his Instagram page, but has been posted to YouTube.
