Twitter Suspends Account That Doctored NYC Video Tweeted By Trump

The meme account that created the doctored version of a viral NYC video of two toddlers hugging has had his account permanently suspended.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The meme account that doctored a viral New York City video of two toddlers hugging, which President Donal Trump Tweeted last week, has had his account permanently suspended.

Carpe Donktum, an online personality known for supporting Trump, said this week that Twitter sent him a suspension letter a few hours after issuing a takedown order for the video, which had originally been flagged as "manipulated media" on the social media platform.

Lawyers for the families of the children in the video said the suspension, and the fact that both Twitter and Facebook have removed the doctored video, are good signs for a lawsuit they are drafting against Trump and the meme-maker, who's real name is Logan Cook.

“The fact that Twitter and Facebook disabled this fake video within 24 hours of President Trump and his campaign tweeting it, coupled with Twitter permanently banning Cook, is very strong evidence that a jury will likely find that all of these people broke the law by using this video as advertisement and political propaganda,” said attorney Ven Johnson, president and founder of Ven Johnson Law.

Ven Johnson Law and Neumann Law Group are drafting a lawsuit against Cook, President Trump and the Donald J. Trump for President campaign, a spokesperson for the firm told Patch on Wednesday.

The suspension comes several days after Trump first Tweeted the doctored video, which featured a fake CNN chyron reading "terrified todler [sic] runs from racist baby" over footage of the white child running after the black toddler set to ominous music.

The original video, posted by Washington Heights dad Michael Cisneros last year, shows his son and a friend running up and hugging on the sidewalk.

Both children's parents have both spoken out about the president's tweet and have said they are exploring legal options about the unauthorized use of their video, according to an appearance on Good Morning America.

The video was the latest post from Trump to be flagged by Twitter in an ongoing battle between the president and the social media platform.

Just this week, Twitter hid a tweet from Trump threatening "serious force" against protesters in Washington DC, according to reports.

An edited video of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden the president posted was also labeled manipulated media in March. In May, Twitter restricted a tweet from the president which it said at the time violated its rules on "glorifying violence."

The president has lashed out at the fact checks and his administration has proposed to roll back protections shielding online platforms from lawsuits based on what people post.
