- Hundreds of classrooms and at least one entire school have already been shuttered due to COVID-19 cases. The city's vaccine mandate for teachers and school staff,
scheduled to take effect Sept. 27, is now mired in a legal matter. School attendance was about 83 percent on Friday, up slightly from 82 percent on Monday — both down compared to around 90 percent on the first day in years past. (Politico) - Two men were shot early Monday morning outside of a popular Lounge in Inwood. Bullets flew around 4:15 a.m. in front of Opus Lounge, NYPD said. A 35-year-old man was shot in the chest, and a 42-year-old man was shot in the right forearm. Both men were rushed to the hospital, where the younger man was pronounced dead, police said. - An on-duty NYPD cop was caught on camera riding on the back of a dirt bike during a Brooklyn block party — despite a citywide police crackdown on the illegal rides. The city has been cracking down on illegal dirt bikes and ATVs after complaints of loud revving, dangerous riders and crashes. The NYPD is aware of the officer's joy ride and are investigating the incident, a police spokesperson said. (Daily News )
- Three tourists were arrested after allegedly assaulting a New York City
restaurant hostess when she asked for proof of their vaccination status before they could be seated indoors, the New York Times reports. were then joined by three men, only one of whom showed a vaccine card. The three Texas women have a court date on Oct. The group then left the restaurant and that's where the fight broke out. (Yahoo) - If you're looking for a sign that summer is coming to an end in New York City, just look to the skies as the 2021 full harvest moon rises. This year's harvest moon will occur on Monday. The moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday morning through Tuesday morning. (Washington Heights-Inwood Patch)
