Wash Heights Pols And Groups Organize Effort To Clean Local Park

The Community Park Clean-Up will take place this weekend in Inwood and Washington Heights.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Residents, organizations, and politicians are banding together Saturday to help clean parks in Washington Heights and Inwood.

For those who want to help clean, the meeting location is Broadway & Dyckman Street at 10 a.m.

"Come with friends and neighbors as we clean our local parks and surrounding streets while also raising awareness of the importance of keeping our community clean," Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez said in a news release.

Rodriguez has recently called for the city to throw more funding into cleaning the parks in Upper Manhattan.

"We also are asking the city of New York to please address the lack of resources that we have to keep our parks clean," Rodriguez said in a community clean up during August.

In September, Rodriguez was part of the official opening ceremony of a new soccer field at the Highbridge Park near the 175th Street entrance. The field was funded with $4 million of the $30 million total that has gotten secured from Mayor Bill de Blasio for renovations to the Highbridge Park.

A variety of local businesses and organizations are sponsoring the cleaning effort, including Quantum Training, Bameso USA, Zumba Fitness, and the WaHi Directory.
