WATCH: Lin-Manuel Miranda Shouts Out Washington Heights in Hamilton-Themed 'SNL' Monologue
Lin-Manuel Miranda said he "dreamed of standing right here on this stage," while growing up in Washington Heights.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Lin-Manuel Miranda may be one of the fastest rising stars in the entertainment industry, but he hasn't forgotten where he comes from.
This weekend the "Hamilton" creator and Washington Heights native hosted "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in his career. During his opening monologue, Miranda showed Washington Heights some love, giving the neighborhood a shout out on national television.
"When I was just a kid growing up in Washington Heights, up in Manhattan, I dreamed of standing right here on this stage," Miranda said.

Much of Miranda's opening monologue was dedicated to a remix of the song "My Shot" from the musical "Hamilton." But instead of historical references, Miranda rapped about the current presidential election — taking several digs at Donald Trump — and "Saturday Night Live" lore.

The performance had a big fan in New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who praised Miranda on Twitter.
