Woman Killed, Man Found With Slit Wrists In Inwood Apartment, Police Say

The homicide is being investigated as a possible domestic murder and attempted suicide, police sources told Patch.

INWOOD, NY — A woman was killed and a man was found with slit wrists Tuesday afternoon inside an Inwood apartment, police told Patch. The NYPD is investigating the homicide as a domestic murder and attempted suicide, police sources told Patch.

Police officers responded to a fifth floor apartment inside 25 Dongan Place, located between Broadway and Arden Street, around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check, police told Patch. When officers entered the apartment they discovered a 63-year-old woman in the bedroom suffering multiple stab wounds to the torso and head trauma, police said. A 59-year-old man was also in the bedroom and was conscious but suffering slash wounds to both of his writs, police said.

The woman, identified as Claudina Cruz, was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was taken to Columbia Presbyterian hospital in stable condition, police told Patch. The man is being investigated as a suspect in Cruz's death, police sources told Patch.

Cruz was listed as the resident of the Dongan Place apartment. The man found with slash wounds to the wrist was not immediately identified by police, but is believed to have been in a relationship with Cruz, police sources told Patch.
