Person of Interest in Inwood Sexual Assault Taken Into Custody
A woman was sexually assaulted inside her Inwood apartment by a man wielding a screwdriver as a weapon.

INWOOD, NY — Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into an Inwood apartment and sexually assaulting the woman who lives there.
Yenson Reyes, 35, was taken into custody Monday and charged with robbery, burglary, criminal sex act and unlawful imprisonment, police told Patch. Reyes is an Inwood resident who lives on Seaman Avenue, police said.

State Senator Adriano Espaillat — who represents Inwood in the state senate — praised officers from the NYPD 34th precinct for their swift response.

"I have been in close contact with Deputy Inspector Reymundo Mundo, the commanding officer of the 34th Precinct, following last night's horrific sexual assault on 213th Street in Inwood," Espaillat said in a statement. "He has informed me that a person of interest is in custody. I want to thank the 34th precinct and everyone involved in the investigation for working diligently to protect Upper Manhattan residents . I will continue to keep in close contact with Deputy Inspector Mundo and update the community as the investigation progresses."
The victim, a 26-year-old woman, told police that a man she did not know entered her apartment Sunday night around 9:22 and brandished a screwdriver, police said. The man then sexually assaulted the woman, and also stole cash and electronics from her apartment before fleeing, police said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation, police said.
The attacker is described as Hispanic, having a light complexion, a tattoo on the right side of his abdomen and standing approximately 5-foot-6, police said. At the time of the attack he was wearing a black shirt and khaki colored pants, police said.
