The Ascendant or Rising Sign is the sign on the horizon when you were born. Each morning the Sun rises, if we were standing on a beach and watching this we would see the Sun slowly coming up over the horizon. The sign the Sun is in would be the sign rising at that point, so everyone born at Sunrise has the same Sun and Rising sign in the chart. This sign changes every two hours so each sign of the zodiac spends about two hours our on that horizon.
