Astrological Tidbit— The dog days of summer is an expression dating back to Roman Times, they thought the star Sirius which rose with the Sun was the cause of summer heat.  Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (large dog).  This star no longer rises at this time as it has moved in the sky but the expressions stays.  The Romans blamed this star for madness in dogs, diseases in men, bad behavior and hysteria. The dog day are usually late July into August
