Link Between Snoring and Heart Disease

Chief medical correspondent for CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta recently reported on a study detecting a correlation between snoring and heart disease. Snoring may lead to tissue damage, carotid artery atherosclerosis and cerebral infractions- more commonly known as a stroke. Local dentist Dr. Kevin Sheren treats patients that suffer from snoring and obstructive sleep apnea in his Hampton Bays, Riverhead, and East Islip offices. Dr. Sheren is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). AADSM is the leading national organization for dentists who treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. Dr. Sheren recently returned from the academies 22nd scientific meeting located in Baltimore, Maryland. Multiple research papers from around the world were presented at the meeting to confirm the study Dr.Gupta reported. Dr. Sheren treats patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and are not able to tolerate a CPAP machine. Dr. Sheren does this by fabricating mandibular repositioning devices that enables the lower jaw to move forward in order to open the airway. Patients who seek management for their sleep disorders are referred by physicians to Dr. Sheren for evaluation and treatment. If you are interested in learning more about the risk associated with loud snoring, or you are a patient diagnosed with sleep apnea, and having difficulties tolerating the CPAP machine, you should contact Dr. Sheren at 631.728.8400 for a consultation.
