Police: East Moriches Man Arrested on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop in Poughkeepsie

The arrest was made last Saturday.

An East Moriches man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, according to New York State Police.

Troopers stopped a car traveling on the Taconic State Parkway for speeding and following an interview of the driver, Andrew J. Maceranka, 26, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from the car, police said.

Maceranka was found to unlawfully possess marijuana, heroin, and oxycodone, according to police.

New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested and charged him with two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to police.

Maceranka was arraigned before the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on a $2000 bond, police said.

He is scheduled to return to the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
