Police: Pair Broke Into Manorville Home, Tried to Rent It Out
Men charged in rental scam, police say.

Two men have been arrested and charged in a rental scam in which they broke into a Manorville home and then tried to rent out the property through Craigslist, Suffolk police said Monday.
According to police, Jose Laboy, of Shirley, and Barry McDaniel, of Coram, broke into an unoccupied home located on Sunrise Service Road North sometime between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 and changed the locks to the residence.
The men then placed an ad on Craigslist in the “Rooms and Shares” section, both in English and Spanish, advertising a residence for rent, police said. The location of the residence was listed as Center Moriches, police said.

An interested person responded and gave Laboy $1,300 as a deposit after Laboy falsely identified himself as the landlord, police said. Police were contacted by the homeowner on Sunday when he returned to his residence and found Laboy and McDaniel inside, police said.
Laboy, 27, is charged with fourth degree grand larceny, second degree burglary, fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar tools. McDaniel, 40, is charged with second degree burglary, fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
