SUFFOLK COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARIES PROVIDE PATRONS WITH MORE THAN 500 NEW TABLET COMPUTERS

The Public Libraries of Suffolk County have received 540 “Nexus 7” tablet computers donated by Google through a New York State grant in response to the libraries’ community outreach during Superstorm Sandy.  Each library is responsible for providing tablets for public use.  Libraries can use them in-house for training patrons on downloading content, or they can circulate eBooks directly to the patron on the tablet.

The Nexus 7 features the world’s sharpest 7 inch tablet screen. You can read text that’s sharper than the printed page, see images more vivid than the highest quality photo magazine, and watch videos come to life in vibrant 1080p HD.

“We are thrilled to receive the Nexus 7’s for our libraries and patrons and are grateful to Google for providing the tablets and OtterBox for providing the protective cases in partnership with New York State,” said Suffolk Cooperative Library System Director Kevin Verbesey.  “These tablet computers enable users to download e-books, music and videos via Live-brary.com, the Suffolk County Public Libraries’ digital branch.”
