Upcoming East End Construction Projects Announced

State assemblyman announces upcoming bicycle route/lane improvement and rest area projects on local roads.

State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) announced on Thursday the upcoming bicycle route/lane improvements and rest area projects on East End State roads.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the proposed projects have now entered the design phase and are expected to be let during the summer of 2016.

Actual construction is estimated to begin in the fall of 2016.

The proposed projects in the area include:

Bicycle Portion:

Include the cleaning of the pavement surface, restriping, replacement of signage, weeding and removal of plants encroaching on shoulder, trimming trees and shrubs that obstruct travel and associated signage, inspection of
drainage grates, resetting drainage grates, and removal and replacement of existing drainage grates with bicycle friends drainage grates.

1. NY Route 24: I-495 to Old Riverhead Road (23.2 miles- length two-way)
2. NY Route 27A: Knoll Road to Tuckahoe Lane (5.6 miles- length two-way)
3. NY Route 114: NY Route 27 (East Hampton) to North Haven Ferry and through Shelter Island (29.2 mile- length two-way where a shoulder exists)
4. NY Route 27: County Road 39 to Montauk Point (62 miles- length two-way)

Rest Areas:

Includes mowing, cleaning of pavement surfaces, litter removal, repair and replacement of signage, restriping, and fence repair.

Former Public Telephone Areas:

Includes fence repair, litter and debris removal, and repairing and/or replacing concrete pads and garbage receptacles.
