Westhampton Beach Students Take Vow of Silence

The students took the vow as a part of the national youth movement "Day of Silence" last Friday.

Members of the Westhampton Beach High School Gay-Straight Alliance sealed their lips last Friday to bring attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The students, decked out in the colors of the rainbow, took a vow of silence as part of the annual national youth movement, “Day of Silence.”

The movement, which began in 1996, involves participants vowing not to speak for an entire day, signing a Day of Silence poster, and pledging their support against harassment and bullying.
