
As Super Bowl mania gets set to invade our area next week a major snowstorm has given MetLife Stadium official an opportunity to test out their snow removal techniques; just in case the game day weather refuses to cooperate. Having an outdoor Super Bowl in a northern city was a risk from the beginning. Now as it gets closer and closer to game time tensions are running high, and all are hopeful for the best.
The extended forecast for the region on Super Bowl Sunday calls for temperature in the high 20’s to low 30’s with a 5% chance of precipitation. Not bad considering the time of year and region of the country where the game is being held. However, the latest report coming from Accuweather meteorologist Even Myers predicts the possibility of a storm system hitting the Northeast just in time for Super Bowl weekend. If and when it will hit and whether or not it arrives in the form of snow still remains a question.
With over half a million people expected to visit the region next week contingency plans for the big game are being discussed. Snow removal crews estimate they would need 18 hours to clear the stadium and surrounding area of snow equal to what the area experienced yesterday. Although the league would like to kick off at the scheduled time, moving the game to an earlier hour or even another day is a possibility. Ideas for playing on Friday, Saturday or even Monday night are being considered.

But Super Bowl official should not be surprised. Back in September the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted that a major storm would hit the Metropolitan area between February 1st and February 3rd.
