No New Cases From Chappaqua Coronavirus Outbreak In 2 Days
The county executive said there was substantial compliance from people contacted regarding the outbreak.
WHITE PLAINS, NY — The recent outbreak of new coronavirus cases from a graduation ceremony and related parties seems to have flattened out. Westchester County officials said they don't think there's a spike ahead to worry about.
In his last scheduled daily coronavirus news conference Monday, Westchester County Executive George Latimer said the county is reasonably confident most of the spread has been identified from the Horace Greeley High School graduation in Chappaqua.
"We seem to be in a pretty good place," he said, adding that the fact that the contagion is 17 days old is encouraging. Health officials said the coronavirus infection runs its course in 14 days.

Latimer said there were 27 positive cases that can be tied to the drive-in graduation ceremony at the Chappaqua train station and after parties in which students were not complying with the use of masks and social distancing.
Of those 27 cases, he said 21 were from Chappaqua, three from Mount Kisco, two from Bedford and one from Pleasantville.

"There have been no new cases in the last two days trackable to Chappaqua," Latimer said.
The county executive said the response to the outbreak was good.
"Nothing is perfect but we got substantial compliance" from people in the area, Latimer said, even though the level of information asked about during contact tracing can seem intrusive.
He said the county will be looking at what happens over the next couple of weeks as it relates to July 4 weekend activities.
Latimer said that he anticipates the MidHudson Region, which includes Westchester County, will be moving into the state's Phase 4 of reopening Tuesday.
"This is the last of the scheduled phases," he said, but businesses such as malls, gyms and movie theaters are still awaiting some determination by Gov. Andrew Cuomo as to whether they will be able to open.

Latimer said that he will be holding weekly news conference on the coronavirus every Monday.
